How Electricity Cost Is Calculated
Electricity cost depends on three things: how much power the appliance draws, how long it runs, and what you pay per kilowatt-hour.
- Convert watts to kilowatts:
kW = Watts ÷ 1000 - Daily consumption:
Daily kWh = kW × Hours Per Day - Monthly consumption:
Monthly kWh = Daily kWh × Days Per Month - Monthly cost:

Annual Cost = Monthly Cost × 12
Example: A 1,000 W appliance used 8 hours/day for 30 days at ₱12/kWh: 1,000 ÷ 1,000 = 1 kW → 1 × 8 = 8 kWh/day → 8 × 30 = 240 kWh/month → 240 × ₱12 = ₱2,880/month.
How to Find Your Electricity Rate
Philippine electricity bills often include multiple charges. A practical approximate effective rate is:
Electricity rate ≈ Total electricity charge ÷ Total kWh consumed
Example: if your bill is ₱4,800 for 400 kWh, then ₱4,800 ÷ 400 = ₱12/kWh. Use your latest bill for the most accurate estimate. The calculator default of ₱12/kWh is only a starting point and is not a permanent assumption.
